In some breaking-my-own-rules goofing-off (hence my lateness in linking), came across this suggestion that seminarians study ASL. Couldn’t agree more. I’m mystified as to why ASL isn’t routinely taught in our public schools.

I would suspect it has something to do with the stigma still attached to ASL as a ‘fake’ language, just gestures, without any real meaning. Sadly, there are those in the deaf services world that are still pushing this idea. What a shame. Despite my two years of ASL, I still received a BS in Psychology and my minor in Deaf Ed, because I hadn’t taken a language. And this was at a school with a national reputation for it’s Deaf Ed program!
Wow. That is just bizarre.
(BTW – Hi! Good to see you here!)
Hello!
Ack, just saw my “it’s” so please forgive me. 🙂
LOL. Even if I were a grammar snob, I’m definitely not a typo snob ;-).
